CompUSA...Sucks

I went to our local CompUSA to pick up two things for a very high-end video editing Power Macintosh G5 setup that I've been privileged to be working on recently, and found it woefully lacking in some amazing basics. I wanted two things -- something to translate from a FireWire 800 to FireWire 400 connection (ideally a cable) and a FireWire hub. Well, CompUSA had *none* of the former, even in the Mac section, and only one single FireWire hub; a small Belkin model they were willing to let go of for just shy of $50. In other words, not a great deal, and no selection to speak of.

Most frustrating is how little "computer stuff" seems to be left in CompUSA -- maybe I'm more of a Radio Shack guy or something, but our CompUSA offers three aisles of wireless cards and routers, two aisles of iPod stuff, four or so aisles of DVD movies, but only one Firewire hub and no 400-to-800 translation cables. At all.

Todd, i hear you on CompUSA. I've never been fawnd of the products that the store carries. I would prefer Bestbuy, but only if they had more available products to help out networks, etc.

Off-topic - I suggest you implement Haloscan.com trackback and commenting - much better (-:
Anyway, nice to see another small-time mac b-log out there, and I have had similar experiences with CompUSA - the one here in alaska has the worst customer support of any company that i've ever worked with, and that includes Microsoft ^^/
YASN - how do you like your new G5? I work with a pair of them in our shoe-box office, and it's a wonderful experience!

Compusa has always sucked here in Lubbock, TX. I agree, they want to sell digital gadgets and cameras, not computer supplies.

Purchased a C5200ne color printer from CompUSA.com website.

The $424.00 price tag seemed too good to be true. Well it was- here's why.

COMPUSA has discontinued this model as of January 2006. I purchased this model on 3-15-2006. It said "in stock" but did not ship until 4-1-2006. I thought that was fishy.

When I got the box, the box was really beat up, which I thought was even fishier.

When I opened the box, all of the manuals, CDs, were beat up. Furthermore, they included the point-of-purchase material in the box. I opened the hood of the printer only to find toner EVERYWHERE, and fingerprints EVERYWHERE.

I didn't even bother opening up the printer any more from that point. It was clear they sent me a floor model. I put it back in the horribly beat up box and shipped it back...AT A COST OF $70.00 of my own money because they don't refund return shipping charges.

Its just really insulting they are selling long- discontinued merchandise that has been abused and passing it off as new. Furthermore, if I kept it, I'd have to buy expensive toner shortly because it had clearly been used up.

I can't believe that CompUSA would do such a thing. I would not have been disappointed if they told me it was a discontinued item or that I was buying a floor model. They were passing off this garbage as "new".

SHAME ON COMP USA!!!

CompUSA employees lie to customers!
Last night Al and I were running errands and decided to purchase a video camera. After going to several stores, we ended up walking into CompUSA. I asked the employee behind the counter (camera and video counter) if he could tell me the difference of two cameras. He said he did not anything about the camera and he was only there setting up the displays. He then directed me to another employee who was helping a another customer who was also looking through their camera selection. As I walked up to the other employee, he says “Good question, I will get my camera guy as he knows a bit more than I do.” O.K he’s honest and wants to get the correct information. However, he (the employee who was being helpful walks over to the guys who tells me he did not know anything about the camera. BUSTED JACK ASS. He was caught and he knew it. We left never to return to this store. Oh here is the address and the phone number just in case you live in Atlanta, and want to know which store to avoid.
